| History |
Roger and Sophia Mitchell – proud owners of a quaint little pub in Bristol that catered to both the magical and non-magical folk bore two children: Vera and Damian Mitchell. Damian being the younger of the two was always a bit spoiled, but only by his grandparents. His parents, while a loving and happy couple, knew how they wanted to raise their two children and as such, Damian grew up with a firm lesson on good manners and politeness; not that that didn’t stop him from getting into trouble of course.
As a child, Damian always had a bit of a twisted out look on life despite his cheery smile. A few of his playmates had commented on how it wasn’t very nice and that it honestly didn’t suit him. Damian, feeling that they were right hid all that cynicism beneath his smile. His sister, Vera, had been the first to accept that fact and told him that he should just get to the chase and love himself. What others said shouldn’t matter, and as a result, Damian’s outlook on life changed slightly.
Damian developed a love for food at an early age. It seems that helping out at the various family pubs, bakeries and restaurants during the summer will do that to you. Even during the school year, Damian would often be found in the kitchens cooking up a storm much to the dismay of the house elves there. Upon graduating though, despite the immense relief that the creatures felt, they could honestly say that they would miss the ‘Raven-haired’ master’s presence in the kitchens at even the most ungodly hours of the night.
That’s not to say that Damian didn’t have other passions beside his love for cooking. At age 6, he received his first toy broomstick and just like that, Damian’s love for Qudditch rivalled that of his love for cooking. He dreamt of becoming a star Qudditch player, but always joked that if that fell through, he wouldn’t mind becoming a chef.
Predictably, Damian was a slacker when it came to homework. Anytime not spent in the kitchens, was spent out and about on his broomstick on the pitch. Ever the social butterfly, Damian made time for him to hang out with friends, still having a habit of being ever so wary about whom he let close to him. He was a bright child, but managed to pull by with ‘A’s in the majority of his subjects with the exception of ‘O’s in both Potions and Transfiguration. Finishing Hogwarts with 6 NEWTS and captain of his Qudditch team, Damian was pleased with himself and his parents were overjoyed that their boy had gotten that many NEWTS. Choosing a career choice on the other hand was the slightly more challenging part. Even though he’d always wanted to be a pro-Qudditch player; the family legacy of owning some sort of food establishment beckoned to him.
Fate’s name seemed to be named Vera however; she took matters into her own hands and surprised him by entering him in a prestigious wizarding cooking contest shortly before his 20th birthday. Damian was of course undeniably nervous, but went ahead with it anyway with the whole Mitchell clan behind him for support. The Mitchell family had always been known for their involvement in cuisine, and Roger's own parents owned a well-known winery that imported and exported their own wine and this contest only added to their name. The contest was a struggle from the beginning, but Damian managed to make a clean sweep of all the competition during the beginning rounds already making Wizarding culinary world ripple with excitement. The final round of the contest was to be determined between Damian’s frozen raspberry lemon tarts and his competitor’s dragon snap pastries and while the scores were nail bitingly close, Damian won, making him one of the youngest competitors to win the contest.
Everything seemed to snowball after that. Everybody wanted a piece of Damian’s cooking and with the help of his family; he eventually managed to open a gastropub on Diagon alley which served drinks, his food and a catering business operating out of it. The little gastropub is still working on all gears, popular as ever and Damian moved to a small flat just outside London with the money he had been making. He hardly had time to think about Qudditch until after the hype died down and although he still misses it, Damian doesn’t regret going into the culinary arts and shows his apprecation to his sister by giving her free drinks on the house for her and her husband whenever they come in to visit, and extravagent birthday cakes when her birthday rolls around. While he does give discounts to his friends, it's only on special occasions or when he feels like it - after all, a man has to make a living, right? |
| Looks |
Damian has grown a few inches since he finished school, and he now stands at 5’11”, still keeping his athletic build from the club Qudditch that he goes to on the weekends. He still looks like his father even more so now that’s he’s almost caught up to his father’s height and his dark green eyes are still there, a present from his mother, Sophia. His eyes often switch shades depending on his mood, and that’s a sure way to tell that what his actual mood is even though he may be all jokes on the outside. Another thing that hasn’t changed much besides his unruly brown hair that has grown slightly with his lack of time to get it cut, is his infectious lady killer’s smile. It’s been known to help him every once in a while when he’s doing business to get his groceries at a cheaper price and Damian hasn’t found one person yet who hasn’t fallen for it.
His sense of style hasn’t changed much since he left Hogwarts. During work hours, he may wear his white, albeit food splattered, chef clothing, or if he’s up front and serving the patrons at the bar, he’ll wear a formal black shirt, black pants and his dress shoes. Outside, you’ll often see him wearing an assortment of buttoned shirts, usually with a t-shirt thrown underneath and sneakers. Now that the press has given him slightly more attention, Damian has recently acquired a number of nicely pressed dress shirts and pants. |
| Personality |
Vera always managed to describe Damian’s personality to a t which is fitting because she is the one who knows him best. Ever since he was a child, Damian had been a bit of a ‘little devil’, going around the house, causing a racket and getting his curious self into trouble. Sophia and Roger would find themselves in the middle of scolding him, when his smile popped up onto his face and it seemed that all would be forgotten. From a young age, Damian was bright enough to use this to his advantage and has done so ever since then, even if sometimes his reasons were unjust. While charismatic and social Damian enjoys his time to relax and be alone and some of his favourite past times is to just fly around on his broomstick. He’s loyal to those he loves and can be scary if something happens to anything he holds dear to him (his pub joining the ranks of those things).
School had always been a bit of an exploration for Damian – he got to press the boundaries of his personality, especially seeing how far he could get without people seeing his less than desirable side. Despite his laidback attitude, Damian is extremely cynical. Very few people have been graced with this side of him, partly because Damian is good at hiding it underneath his smile and also because he’s afraid of being judged about it. While it did bother him when he was younger, he came to a realization that living in fear about it wasn’t going to help and that he should just get to the chase and love himself. He’s a very truthful and sometimes blunt person – the kind who speaks before they think and as a result, has a habit of not really realizing how people will react to his actions or words. He has become more self-conscious of this fact, but it’s a part of who he is and because he knows that, Damian is comfortable with it.
Damian has also been known to only do things that will benefit him in one way or another, and although he’s sometimes ashamed to admit it, some of his friendships at Hogwarts were based off that alone. Some of them though turned out to be genuine ones and his ulterior motives were forgotten once he got in too deep to remember why he wanted to be friends with them in the first place. This part of him does come out every once in a while and it certainly does help when celebrities and the like come down for a bite of his food at the gastropub. It is only around his close friends will he drop his guard and act like himself comfortably. At his worst, Damian will begin to question whether or not he is a good person and his smile disappears for a few days.
Damian’s favourite thing to do if he has off time is to just go fly; it matches is laidback attitude and when he’s up in the sky, he feels a bit nostalgic. Overall though, it takes a lot off of his mind and it’s time that he usually reserves for himself. It’s no mistaking that’s he a bit of Qudditch fanatic and he’s recently taking to playing the guitar in his spare time. Damian of course is a bit picky about what goes on in his pub and there are a few unspoken rules one mainly being no smoking. There is a room set aside for his customers who do smoke, but its mainly because he says that it ruins the food’s taste. He’s honestly somebody who goes to his own beat and doesn’t really like it when somebody tires to make him do things he doesn’t want to do, even though he may act grudgingly and do it if it’s for somebody that he’s close to. There’s not a lot that could make Damian run except his loved ones, and it’s only then that he’ll act frazzled or anxious. |

Ever the most faithful of pets, Ed, Damian’s red tailed hawk has become something of the gastropub’s symbol. He’s a bit snippy and has his own stubborn personality, but has never failed Damian and is often known to keep the bar fights to minimum with his piercing glare. He jokes that Ed is the best bouncer that an establishment will ever have. During the weekends, Damian partakes in club Qudditch with a few of his old school chums and still has his old Nimbus in his closet. He’s still known to be a bit of a fanatic and wouldn’t mind splurging on a new broomstick, just for the sake of having one even though his trusty broom has never let him down yet. |
