With My Life/Secret Keeper && This Is What it Means to Love

"Whoever said it was better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all was only partially sane; for I've had the chance to reclaim that lost love and I feel quite blessed. Hugh is my best friend, my lover, and the man I hope to spend the rest of my life alongside. We're quite the pair, and I think it's safe to say that I'll never find another man like him to share my life with - nor would I want to."

"Hugh and I go back to Hogwarts and he, Jacob and I were teammates on the Quidditch team which partly lead to us being such good friends. I honestly think that he should have been made captain instead of me in our last year - he was more of a leader than I'll ever be. But he's one of the people I know I could count on if I needed any help. I'm glad to hear that he and Aurelia are back together, but the two lovebirds need to come visit me, yeah? There's a table in the pub with their name on it."

Backstory: Hugh is probably the closest thing I have to a brother. He and I have been through quite a bit, much more than smelly locker room discussions. Of course, He went and became successful whereas I failed for a year and then made a life out of being pelted in the head. But he supports that. Jamiel says I go out of my way to see him, and maybe I do, but we have fun!

Common Purpose

"Hugh and I have come a long way since the days of the bullying Slytherin gang, and he has truly matured into the reliable, trustworthy, and very loving friend and lover to my almost-sister. Of all the couples I've seen, they're truly the one pair that has endured through all, and I can safely say that I will probably never find a more well-suited duo. Naturally I wish all the best for them, but Hugh especially - he is the most sensible person I know, and a source of great strength in uncertain times."

"Hugh and I knew each other pretty well during school. I mean, we played against each other in Quidditch, so you'd think there would be at least a little animosity, but there wasn’t. We had a friendly rivalry on the pitch and sometimes in the classroom, but it never went beyond that. We used to have tutoring sessions – Hugh’s brilliant idea. They were a lot of fun, actually, despite the many small fires, and sometimes even explosions… The consequences of inexperienced students, I suppose. I need to catch up with Hugh, we haven’t spoken in a while…”

"I'd be lying if I said I never had a crush on Hugh. As a silly teen, I used to tease him horribly, and thought he was boring, and such -- but that's anything but the truth. I owe him (and Auri) my life, literally. I knew it was never to be, he was far too attached to Auri, but a girl could dream. He helped me get onto the team, and helped me academically, and never took advantage. Now that we're older, we're good friends, and I value that as much as any gold."

"I've always respected Hugh greatly - there's a sense of levelheadedness and solidarity about him that always impressed me. I can't say I'm surprised he succeeded me as Head Boy, though. He was destined to lead others, I just don't think he knew it. Since school he seems to have realized that potential a little, working for the IMC here and there, but I'm certain there is more to come. As for he and Auri, well - most everything's been said there. They belong together, and that's that. Nowadays, whenever I see him, odds are she's there too: over for a nice dinner, on an outing to a new museum exhibit, or occasionally on Chase and Auri's shopping trips (on which I am perpetually dragged along). I always enjoy his good company."

"Oh yeah. I remember Hugh. Never really knew him much, but he came around the CoMC stuff a lot there for a while. I was always there helping out and would be friendly towards him. Other than that, didn't know much about him, except he got prefect. Luckily he didn't give me any detentions. I had calmed down a bit by then. I think I remember Benjamin talking about him some after he came to school. Something about tutoring, maybe? I honestly don't remember. I've heard that Hugh is in the Ministry as well. Maybe I'll look him up soon."

"Hugh? Hugh Kenrick! Oh yes, he and I chummed around a little in school. He was always so nice! He was also always very calm and level-headed, even in the midst of something strange going on. Very good in school, not bad at Quidditch if I remember correctly, and popular with everyone. It was no surprise at all when he became Headboy! I was proud to say I knew Hugh. But like most of my casual friends from school... we've lost touch. I know he's been working very hard over these past few years, which is probably the reason why I don't see him around much. Maybe he'll swing by the shop one time with Aurelia. It'd be nice to chat."

"Hugh is... Well, he's one of the most brilliant people I know. I always had a lot of respect for him, still do. I know him mostly thanks to Liam, but we still spoke in classes or whatnot without my brother. He was just always a nice guy. I really hate the word nice, but it's kind of the best word to describe Hugh. He cares about other people and he just has this way with people... I dunno. He's just Hugh. He's got a good head on his shoulders. And I'm really, really happy for him and Auri. They really deserve a happy ending. Not that marriage is the end... It's another beginning. I really don't know what I'm trying to say anymore."

"Hugh was one of the few people that was actually kind to me at Hogwarts starting out. Being the untrusting little thing I was though, I told him to shut his mouth, although I had to admit that he was horribly attractive even when we were younger (not that he isn't now, but you get what I'm trying to say). His repeated kindness and our encounters in the common room and classes broke through to me in the end though, and I did admittedly develop a bit of a crush on him. Whoever said that love was supposed to make girls more beautiful was obviously wrong when it concerned me. When I heard word of Aurelia liking him too, I embarrassingly told a bit of a fib about Hugh to Auri in hopes that she would stop liking him.

Of course I was found out and I was more or less blacklisted for the remainder of the year. ...Lucky for me, Hugh has a forgiving soul and was kind enough to forgive me for my foolish mistake. We made up and the he has forever earned my respect and loyalty. It's about time the two lovebirds tied the knot; seeing them apart was horrible for my complextion, for Merlin's sake!

Trade Stories

Oh Hugh. At school I was the bane of his existence from time to time, but it was harmless. he was actually one of my favorite prefects. Mainly because I had the least amount of negative run-ins with the guy. Of course, he was just adorable when he'd get annoyed with me. Now, I work for him. He still gets annoyed with me, but now it's because of my sometimes questionable approach to my job. He doesn't ask anymore so I'm good. I think we have a pretty healthy working relationship now.

"Hugh and I didn't exactly travel in the same circles in school. I mean, we were both prefects, so we did have to interact. But, he and Phillip hated each other, so that didn't really allow for any type of friendship. I guess I do kind of owe Hugh. He really helped me out in Transfiguration - my worst subject. And he never really told anyone about it, so I didn't have to suffer the embarrassment of other knowing I was asking a Hufflepuff for help. I don't see much of Hugh these days, except for that time in Turkey when I helped out the IMMF. It was interesting working with them. But, no, Hugh and I don't interact much."

"Hugh's been a friend of mine....pretty much since our first boat ride into Hogwarts. We've grown up together, and I've always thought him and Auri are the best couple. He's helped me out a few times in school, and I've returned the favor since then by helping him out whenever the ministry needs a go-between at Gringotts. He deserves everything he's gotten in life, and if somone told me one day that he was in the running for one of the two big jobs -- minister or headmaster -- I wouldn't be at all surprised."

Talia and Hugh have known each other for a very long time. They went to school together, even though not necessarily sharing the same house, and not always the same interests. Talia has always respected Hugh and thought of him as a brother, helping him with his various adventures over the years, and getting help in return on hers.

"Hugh Kenrick - now there's a name you don't quite forget. If I recall correctly, that year in the boys' dormitories of Hufflepuff it was Damian, Hugh, Forbes, and Sexton. We were all fairly close, though I knew Hugh and Damian much better than Sexton and Forbes - to think of it, Sexton and Forbes didn't amount to all that much anyway so maybe it was for the best that I only really remained in touch with these two; Damian, Hugh and I played for Hufflepuff as well. Last I heard of Hugh he was scampering 'round the Ministry on some such bureaucratic pursuit, though I did get a chance at an odd meet-up here and there at the Red Hawk awhile back and he seems much the same as always - solid and reliable and the like.

Lo and behold, I received an invitation to his wedding a few weeks back. Maybe I'll actually show up, see how they're all doing, though I s'pose I'll have to be on my guard in case he has Ministry friends. Oh whose leg am I pulling, it's Hugh, of course he'll have Ministry mates. Still, it's good to hear that he and that redhead have made it, though I can't help but wonder how many other girls he's missed out on, ha."

"Hugh is one of my oldest and dearest male friends; and our families are related smoewhere in history, I think. This didn't stop me from liking him in school, but he really only had a couple of girlfriends, and Auri was about 90% of them. I liked her, so I wasn't too disappointed that he didn't think of me as girlfriend material. He's been pretty good about keeping up the letters and cards after school, and I know he's doing pretty well now. I send him an occasional owl from some corner of the world, just to say hi. If I didn't travel so much, I'd like to really sit down with him and Little Red to see what they're doing. For now, it will just have to be occasional letters.

"Things weren't always easy for me in school, but I was glad I had a small handful of friends that were just that: There when you need them, and honest enough to tell you when you're being an idiot. Hugh was one of those, and he even had nice ways of telling me I was being an idiot. We got along well, and if I was sometimes envious, and he was sometimes impatient with me, then he and I knew how to forgive each other for our faults. Hugh doesn't have many, but that's what makes him a good chap, too. I'm glad he found a girl to love and that would make him laugh. He was too serious. Maybe he still is, I haven't been keeping up with him very well. My fault."
