Hugh Kenrick
One day, one night one moment
With a dream to be leaving
One step, one fall, one falter
Find a new world across a wide ocean
This way became my journey
This day brings together
Far and Away

The muted sounds of early morning Paris traffic reached the young man seated at the hotel room desk. Clad only in boxer shorts, he was writing a letter, but leaned over to have a look at the young woman sleeping the the bed near at hand. The sound of her soft breathing, a delicate flutter, could also be heard, her one arm flung outward towards the pillow where he'd lain, and the other around the pillow that cradled her head and its mass of red hair. The rest of the bedding was gone, and only the sheet remained, tangled around her midsection, which gave Hugh a fine view of a very pretty leg, and her torso, that was also bare, as morning light crept into the room.

He finished the letter to his parents, and placed it carefully into the compartment of a small red bird, whose jeweled exterior glittered with garnets and gold, much like her hair glittered against the white pillow. He moved quietly to her side, and leaned over. The lips were first...
Aurelia Kenrick
Since Hugh had managed his way back into her life, it was to no one’s surprise that Aurelia maintained a semi-regular sleep habit again. But while her counter part had marvelous dreams of Egyptian queens, she managed only the darkness of sleep; there were to be no dreams good or bad for the red head.

She had been on the verge of waking when Hugh curled up next to her again. His lips had found hers, and she relished in the doting affections from her boyfriend fiancé. Her arms wrapped gingerly about his neck and she shifted a little, turning on her side to face him properly.

“Morning my love.” Her words were soft and filled with that well rested but still just waking sort of tone. She smiled and ran her fingers though his hair for a moment before leaning up for another kiss. Life in Pairs with Hugh was quite delightful to her. And even though they’d eventually leave Paris, she was beginning to excitedly accept the idea of waking up next to him for the rest of her days.
Hugh Kenrick
As he looked at her this morning, he was reminded of something he'd seen last night. During their amorous coupling during the night, Hugh had noticed something just as they had fallen asleep. It puzzled him just a little, as he scanned the sleepy, perfect face. It was a curious effect of lovemaking that their patronuses would appear spontaneously, and take on each other's characteristics, and dance about.

Last night, and for the prior few nights going back at least a month; he'd seen a subtle change in the appearance of these patronuses. He couldn't account for the changes -- they were larger, and there were additional tiny wispy images of them also floating around above and below. He said nothing, as she knew of this effect, if not the change. It was just another puzzling, unexplained thing about this young woman that he adored.

Meanwhile, the redhead had encased him in her arms and he continued their snuggling soundlessly for a while. He managed to kiss the few remaining areas of her that looked neglected this morning.

"You are tempting me, you little red fox. We have things to do," he murmured. Although the words were barely audible, busy as he was with various parts of her anatomy.

Aurelia Kenrick
As much as laying in bed with Hugh all day did appeal to the red head, he was right; they had a list of things to get done today. Besides, there would be plenty of days where they could simply lounge around their house back in London.

"You're right." And with that, Aurelia managed herself up out of bed. She gave Hugh one last kiss before scurrying off to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

After a quick shower and a few charms to dry her hair and finish getting ready, Aurelia appeared again in a quaint but cute summer dress. It was colorful and she wore a few little colorful clips in her hair and fashion jewelry to compliment the colors in the dress itself. She'd picked out a plain pair of white sandals, as they had quite a few things to do today and she didn't have the stamina to wander around in heels all day.

She sat perched on the writing desk, waiting for Hugh to finish getting ready. Inbetween him getting ready and a few more kisses, Aurelia questioned what was first on the list. "I'm quite excited to see the actual church, besides the painting I've never seen pictures of it even."
Hugh Kenrick
After a very brief time of getting ready for the day, Hugh rejoined Aurelia, and admired the dress she'd chosen. Another very good choice for the leggy redhead. Hugh refrained from rumpling her in a hug (though he was tempted)He had got on some comfortable casuals, and packed up their bags so that they could head straight to their ultimate destination for the say: The little suburb of Eragny su Oise.

Hugh used the novel method of telephoning the small hotel they would stay in in Eragny that night to get a reservation, before they headed back to the UK the following day, Three Chimneys. Hugh was no stranger to the muggle devices, however, and the reservation was quickly done, and Hugh got to practice his French again.

"No, I've never seen it either. I hope it's a nice place, it seems so from the few pictures I've seen in the tourist guidebooks."

He showed her a couple of them, as well as a pic of the little hotel they would stay at while they checked out the church.

When all was ready, they were ready to step out into the streets of Paris once more. The Sorbonne was nearby, a famous university, and there were any number of cafes and places to eat.

"Di you want to do a little window shopping? As long as we're here, we might as well see what the French designers have for the season -- or maybe even -- dare I say it -- look at gowns?"
Aurelia Kenrick
Aurelia was tickled with the pictures; it seemed that the place was quaint and cute and just picture perfect – no pun intended – and that it would be an ideal spot for their wedding. Perhaps it was a little strange to their friends, for she wasn’t sure if any of them really knew the purpose behind it, but it didn’t matter to her. If they liked it when they visited, then it would be a perfect spot for their wedding.

The idea of window shopping did appeal to the red head; though she didn’t really need anything, save the gown he’d mentioned. Truth was, she hadn’t the slightest idea if her mother had one in the attic back home, nor if she would fit it by the wedding itself.

“I would like to pick up a few of those muggle catalogues at a few of their dress shops. But I won’t be giving away which ones I like mister, this wedding thing is serious business now, and I can’t have you peeping my dress, that’s awful luck.” She gave him a kiss and took up his arm once they’d taken to the street.
Hugh Kenrick
The pictures elicited some good reaction from Aurelia, and an actual tour of the church would be fun. They'd have to meet the local curate, and there was still the date to be decided on.

"But, of course, mademoiselle," he said returning the kiss. "I wouldn't dream of wanting to know what you'll look like. That's the bride's privilege, and I'm not worried." He gave her a warm smile. He knew she had the looks and style to carry off anything. He was naturally curious, but if she wore a simple dress or something complicated, it didn't matter to Hugh.

Once back on the streets of Paris, Hugh steered them along some different streets. They took it easy, and it was a fine day. The Rue de Vaugirard was busy with shoppers like themselves, and Hugh was tempted to cut through Luxembourg Gardens, but they soon found themselves on a side street across from the gardens that had row after row of boutiques, bistros, and flower shops. Pausing only long enough for Hugh to buy an orchid for Aurelia's hair, they soon plunged into the perfumed interior of one of the shops that had some very nice looking clothing in the display windows. There were two entrances. The shop was people by mostly young female shoppers in their 20's but an annex next door seemed as if it was for also for formal wear and bridal.

"Looks nice," offered Hugh, and let go of her arm as they entered.

Hugh idled in the background, as the proprietress (evidently well trained in spotting engaged couples) came forward with a gracious smile.

"Bonjour, mademoiselle e monsieur, how can I be of service?"

Aurelia Kenrick
The streets of Paris were so lovely this time of year; right before the hottest days would hit the city and the dress of the visitors was even more revealing than it currently was. There had been a great many days spent on these streets for the red head in her younger years. Her aunt’s conventions seemingly always ended up coming to a conclusion in Paris, and the woman had her own little flat somewhere on the back streets; though these days she lived with this or that friend as she traveled. It had been nice to catch up a little with her aunt the other evening. Thankfully Mildred hadn’t said anything too out of context though; she didn’t want any speculations until she knew for certain about anything dealing with what Mildred had vaguely mentioned.

Aurelia couldn’t really mask her own excitement for the wedding though; despite all the planning she had to do, it would be a lovely little event. She really did hope the little church in Eragny would suffice, as she held no other affinitive for a place than that. It was quite and rather simple, and Aurelia didn’t need much to be happy; so long as she had her groom and their closest family and friends, she would be happy to marry him anywhere really.

She stepped into the shop and glanced around. It really was a nice shop, but she was just browsing. “We were just looking around.” Aurelia offered up, still looking at one of the dresses. With an impish grin, she added, “I guess I’ve got to find myself a dress or he’ll never marry me.” She laughed and went to looking around. There were so many to pick from! Big and puffy ones, slim ones. Aurelia was a little lost in even making up her mind about what kind she should wear. This was going to be hard!
Hugh Kenrick
It looked like a good place to start, even if all Aurelia did was get ideas. There were certainly enough styles to choose from, and the inevitable bridesmaid dresses too. A color theme, wasn't that supposed to be one of thing they decided on? It was a whole new world to Hugh, but it was going to be fun, even if he only saw the final results. Naturally, he left the details to Aurelia, and busied himself more on the catalogs that she might want to collect.

"I see you have a lot of the designer types, but what about custom design?" Hugh asked casually of the clerk. The woman nodded.

Bien sur, monsieur. We can do almost anything the lady desires. Our owner is a designer, you see? She indicated a fashionable magazine where the shop's name was featured in an ad and a show.

"That's a good point, it's certainly time to the spring fashion shows," observed Hugh, and he showed the design book to Aurelia. A show would be a good way to see many things at once, and certainly collect business cards if she wanted to try a French design.

Certenment, monsieur. There is one tomorrow evening at the Parc de Expositions

The woman handed Aurelia a card with the address of the show:

12, Boulevard des Capucines
75009 9ème Arrondissement Paris

"It may be difficult to get an admission, but as we are connected with the show, I can see for you?"

Hugh went over the time in his mind. They could certainly stay an extra day if they wanted. They had the time. The church could take up the afternoon, and they could return to Paris tomorrow and see the show. However, he deferred to Aurelia on this.

"Well, love, we can take the time. maybe you can get Corinne or someone to go with you if she's in town?"
Aurelia Kenrick
Aurelia was impressed, to say the least; it seemed that the pair had stumbled into just the right shop. As the woman and Hugh spoke a little, the red head wandered around a little. The mention of the fashion show did bring a grin to her face; she’d been to a few back in the day with Corinne, so it would be a snap to get her to go if she wasn’t busy with her dancing. Honestly though, Aurelia wasn’t up for the grueling travel. She wanted nothing more than to just keep the tempo of her vacation at a slow and steady pace.

“I don’t know.. I was looking forward to spending the extra day with you, at your parent’s estate.. I’m not sure if my attention span could really handle a fashion show at the moment..” Nor her stomach. It seemed odd to the redhead that she’d had some awkward sort of stomach ache that didn’t so much ache as feel weird to her. She shrugged it off as some pre-warning of some cold or flu or something that was bound to be catching up with her, working at the hospital.
Hugh Kenrick
Hugh saw the sense in avoiding the fashion show. She'd have plenty of time to look for gown with friends. And the fact was, that he truly didn't want to know what she was considering. So he listened as she spoke about her preference for spending the day with him. He patted her arm to acknowledge the redhead's wish, and turned back to the clerk.

"It's late notice, so we'll have to decline. Perhaps next time," he told the clerk. "But thank you for the offer."

He did, however, collect a card from the head designer on Aurelia's behalf. That way, if she wanted to get mock-ups done or sketch drawings to her own design, she could. He let her look around at the gowns, while he mostly looked at the design books. They certainly were nice ones. He tried to recall the wedding album of his own parents. He couldn't remember seeing it recently, so he'd have to ask them to find it, and bring it out to show when they got to the house. He knew only that it had been in the wintertime, and they hadn't gotten married near home either. He was surprised at himself that he didn't remember the story.

"Shall we continue on?" he asked his companion.
Aurelia Kenrick
(ooc: I’m glad I re-read this; I forgot she didn’t know she was pregnant yet..)

As magical as the gowns were (no pun intended), Aurelia had so many things to do before even trying one on. They were pretty though; and Aurelia was almost at a ‘kid in a candy store’ sort of mentality. When she was ready to try them on, she’d have at least nearly two hundred different ones to try; for she couldn’t be too safe or sure when it came to the dress. Everyone knew it was all about the dress, and growing up she’d done little planning about her dream wedding other than her dress; and when she found it, she would know for sure.

“Yes. Let us be on our way.” Aurelia took up Hugh’s arm and smiled. “Can we stop off for a quick drink or bagel? I feel a little dizzy.” The bustling streets of Pairs met the lovely duo again as they made it to the streets again.
Hugh Kenrick
"Absolutely, shopping usually makes me hungry, and so do redheads," he laughed. One thing about Paris that people love, of course is that there's no shortage of cafes, bistros and little specialty places to stop and eat, and take a break from work or the enjoyment of spending the day wandering. The Rue de Vaugirard, Hugh knew, was also one of the longest streets in Paris, so it offered unlimited possibilities to nosh.

They took it at an easy pace, they were young, in love, and in Paris, after all. But a few windows down from the dress shops and bookstores of the district was a nice looking deli-restaurant called Croccante. It was still early, but it seemed a popular spot, ad people were buying things to take away and some were also just sitting down for a mid-morning break. The little tables were classic Parisian, and fresh flower decorated them.

Sandwiches, cheeses, hams, and homemade pastas greeted them as they looked at the little menu.

"This looks about right. Nice bread," commented Hugh. He looked out to the street and the cyclists, traffic and general business. He pulled out a letter from his pocket while she looked and decided if she liked the menu. The letter was one from Frere Brueys of the little town of Eragny sur Oise, to whom he had written. He scanned it again. It was a very friendly letter (in French) that described what had happened to the church in question during the Second World War. A crippled bomber of the RAF came close to destroying the little church, but the local wizarding community had "moved" the entire church away from its old site just as the bomber was about to strike the steeple.

Since the magic used was blatant, they'd had to preserve the church as an invisible (to muggles) magical building at its new location, and the muggle community suffered the loss of their pretty church. Miraculously, the crew of the bomber all survived the terrible incident unscathed.

A further legend sprung up around the story about how the destruction of the church unearthed a lost Huguenot treasure trove. The muggles saw only rubble, but amongst the rubble they found trove of coins that the community used to pay for the new church in Eragny. Meanwhile, the wizarding community had grown in the area, and the medieval church was added to their community.

He invited Hugh to visit and tour the church when he was in the area.

Aurelia Kenrick
Arm in arm they had taken to the streets. One step at a time, they finally found a nice little corner café/deli that held a few rows of bread that the red head thought she could devour in one sitting. Aurelia smiled and nod to Hugh’s assessment of the bread. It certainly smelled delightful.

“This will do. It doesn’t have to be anything grand. Just something to tie us over till later.” She gave his cheek a quick peck before turning back to the menu. Now, the only question was what to order.

The bagel would be nice, but it would be gone in three or four bites! But a sandwich was too much. Perhaps she’d settle on one of those big blueberry muffins and a nice lemonade. That seemed light and filling.

She relayed her choice to Hugh with a smile. “Anything for you, m’dear? You’ll need loads of energy; given you’ve just committed to spending your life with a particular red head..”
Hugh Kenrick
Hugh's response to her observation about his need for energy was to lean over and whisper to her and nuzzle her ear.

"Oh, I know I'll need all my energy for you, red fox. But I love the challenge."

He smiled and straightened up, and said softly, and his eyes had the same smile in them that his face did.

"It took a while for us to get to this point, Aurelia. But I'm glad I'm here. It's been an extraordinary journey with you, so far. Thanks, love."

He was a bit hungry, so he picked out a ham and melted cheese croissant with some fruit and coffee to go with it, and soon settled in to have a second breakfast. It was a splendid morning for observing people as they sat and made up lists. The people observing was a game which Hugh had often played with Aurelia in other place and at other times. Making up stories about people wandering by was fun, and it make him compare think about their own story. After a while he passed the letter from the parish priest - Father Brueys - to her to look at.

"Here's the reply I just got. I wrote him after you accepted the ring. After we tour around Paris this morning, we can head out to the inn and stay over, and I'll set up time to talk with him over at the church. I want to see if you like what we find at Eragny."
Aurelia Kenrick
With a small grin, Aurelia eyed the menu again. It was only another moment before her cheeks were flushed and she looked up again. How sweet of Hugh to say. So true it was though; they’d been through so much together, and it was nice to be at a point where they were together and much in love again. The red head hoped she would never lose that again; it would be hard to live through again.

“I love you so, sir. And I would be utterly lost without you; I was lost without you. I am glad to have you back with me, to have you back in my life.” She drew in a small breath and took up a seat with Hugh.

The hustle and bustle of the city always made the red head smile. She very much loved to sit among the unsuspecting people (both magical and muggle) and just watch the world pass by. It made her even happier when Hugh joined in with the various stories. Though sometimes she wondered what people thought of her when she managed her way down the street. It struck her odd, all those people that she would never know.

They sat eating for a bit, and discussing this and that, before Hugh handed her the letter. She looked over it with a smile before handing it back. “I’ve only ever seen the pictures you showed me, and the painting that turned our random train chit-chat into the greatest adventure of my life.. But it’ll be perfect, I know it..”
Hugh Kenrick
"It should make for some nice pictures for our scrapbooks, that's for sure," he said.

Hugh smiled warmly at her expression and words of confidence in the church and the day they'd be joined, and his heart glowed. Over the last few months he never let himself forget what he'd almost lost. The idea of a life without the redhead had never managed to take hold of his mind in all the years since school, but Hugh knew he knew he'd committed that common male sin of not reminding her how much she meant. While no other girl had ever come close to touching his heart, he'd forgotten their unwritten agreement fin their old game of ‘a million and five,’ questions.

He'd matured, and he was better at expressing love now, he’d finally begun to listen. It had taken a near death experience to do it, but now he had turned a corner.

The sight of her, her smell, her taste, and body, the familiar little noises she made thrilled him as much as ever. You just had to believe in what the other person wanted. As he'd explained to her when he'd asked for her hand, marriage was simply his way of assuring himself that he would never forget his promise to love her always. It was many generations of Kenricks that had acted this way, and he really was a creature of some habits.

All of this passed through his mind as they sat and talked. Then he smiled suddenly.

"How will we escape the reception? Since our wedding is just a pause in the road to crazy, er, exciting adventures, we ought to make a dramatic exit."
Aurelia Kenrick
Aurelia was content with her food and her company, watching the passing city as the morning waxed on. She had taken to watching Hugh for a few moments before he finally piped up. In fact, she thought about asking him ‘sickle for your thoughts’ but he had managed a smile and looked up at her in that exact moment.

His question brought her own grin along with a small laugh in the back of her throat. She sipped on her sweetened tea before even suggesting an answer. “Well,” she tossed around a few ideas in her head for a moment before speaking up. “I should hope it won’t be too dramatic.. I would like to enjoy the celebrations with everyone we’re gathering there, but I do see the dilemma.. Perhaps we shall just slip off.. Everyone will be putting us in the center of attention, so when we do have a moment, we shall have to slip off. Unless you’ve some crazy idea brewing upstairs.” To that she leaned in and planted a kiss to the side of his head.

With another smile she settled against Hugh’s side, taking up her drink again. “Don’t they always farewell the bride and groom anyways? I mean, I’ve seen a few muggle movies where they do that.. I haven’t been to many weddings, to be perfectly honest; been to more funerals than weddings.”
Hugh Kenrick
"Then we must set the pace for the rest of the pack as far as weddings are concerned! And I can't think of anyone but Miss Mischief to do that with."

It was very comfortable just sitting and chatting and watching the world roll by without cares. It was when Hugh did some of his best thinking, and having the girl on his shoulder who’s observances complemented his, and sometimes challenged them, was a benefit. So much had to be done for their wedding, but at the moment, Paris was offering them time for reflective thought, and he continued.

“I agree, and simply slipping away would be all right with me, but I’m sure the crowd will want to wish us well, as you said. So, the manner of the exit depends a lot on where we’d be going right after.”

He paused, and took a sip, and examined the slices of fruit on his plate.

“We could go someplace fairly close for the first night, and then embark on the longer journey. I was thinking we could depart like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, by air: Only this time, her scarecrow would go with her,” he smiled and kissed her cheek.

“Preston’s got this small airship he restored that could take us somewhere in England for the night – I have some ideas where – and then the rest of the honeymoon would follow. Someplace we’ve never been? Tahiti or the South Seas?”
Aurelia Kenrick
At Hugh’s mention of the wedding, Aurelia’s head started to drift, she had a great many things to get done in such a short amount of time. It didn’t help that her maid of honor was quite busy with her own affairs; being a auror left little to no time for silly things, like wedding planning. Still, she imagined she might get Gretta to help her a bit. Though her far away friend did have her own family to attend two, the two of them could manage occupying a baby and wedding plans. Also, she could enlist the help of two or three of her hospital friends. There was still a lot that she herself had to do on her own though.

There had been a slight pain in her stomach, but their breakfast snack had certainly cured her. The red head fussed with her hair a moment –it seemed not to sit right today for some reason– before turning her glance to Hugh.

“I guess we’ll decide last minute. That’s the only way to keep it completely spontaneous I suppose.”

Her glance drifted back to the passing people for a few moments as he spoke of their honeymoon. She hadn’t even thought about any of that. Aurelia had always thought that was the big task for the guy; to decide where the newly wedded couple spent their vacation from reality (and magic).

“All of that I’m leaving up to you, my love.” She smiled, sitting her drink down for a moment to pull back her hair; it had reached a point where it completely annoyed her. “I’d follow you to the ends of the world, you know that.”
Hugh Kenrick
"That's a good location. The ends of the world it shall be!" he said, smiling. "We can be far and away for a little wile, anyway. I think a balloon escape will be spontaneous enough. There's a very cool bed-and-breakfast up north that we can spend the first night, or we could go back to the Falls Inn. That's a pretty significant place." He looked at her, and the memories were always fresh from that weekend.

On topic and between bites, Hugh explained that he'd written to, and gotten responses from a cousin on his mother's side of the family that he'd been fairly close to, and that he'd be happy to be a groomsman He was just completing his final year at Hogwarts. Then there were two of his roommates from his year, James Higgby, commonly known as Higgs, and his old childhood friend and roommates, Cabot Forbes. Jake of course, was already enlisted.

"They'll help me with details. As far as helping the ladies side of the business, my mother's a little burdened with Olivia, but she can send out inquiries, make reservations, and so forth. Plus, like all Moms, she'll have reams of good advice for you," he smiled. "Since we're headed up there in a couple of days, why don't you ask her?"

"Now as for helpers, who are you going to enlist on the bridesmaid side? You have Chase. What about the rest?"

Aurelia Kenrick
They exchanged smiles at the mention of them actually spending their honeymoon at the end of the world. Where would that even be? Antarctica? Well, Aurelia certainly wasn’t spending any time there if she could have her say.

His mention of having his groomsmen in order prompted a look from Aurelia. Well, that certainly wasn’t fair; he was two steps ahead of her in planning already, and they were engaged for not even a full day yet. That little trickster; how’d he know she would agree to marriage.

She almost let out an audible laugh at her own thought, but just smiled and looked at her drink a moment, taking a sip. There wasn’t anything in the world that would stop her from accepting a marriage proposal from the only man she’d ever really had an ounce of feeling for, at least in the romantic sense. Sure, there had been other boys; perhaps even a few men who would have been decent matches, but when Hugh had left after their time at Hogwarts, Aurelia had shut herself off to dating and caring for anyone other than her small circle of friends – and patients of course!

“I wouldn’t bother your mother with any of the wedding mumbo-jumbo. Whatever she wants to help with, I’ll take, but I can manage..” She bit on her lip a little, crumbling up the bit of paper her muffin had been wrapped in.

“I actually don’t know.. Chase is the only girl besides my aunt who I’ve even spoken to since graduation.. I sort of fell off track with the world when you took off..” She certainly didn’t like talking about him not being around; it’d been hard enough to live through the first time, let alone to bring it up.

Aurelia took a moment to rid herself of her garbage before taking a seat next to Hugh again. She drew in a breath and smiled. “I’ll figure it all out though; we’ve got plenty of time to plan everything.. Speaking of planning things; shouldn’t we be off to visit the church?”
Hugh Kenrick
She seemed surprised that he had already contacted some of his friends. He hastened to explain that he'd gone to Chase to ask her advice before he'd even proposed, and she'd helped him plan the whole surprise engagement, and it had been tough to keep that secret even from his friends. They were always asking him the obvious question. Even Corinne had needled him about the proposal. It was funny now, but it was a big step for any couple, even when they knew each other so well and loved each other for so long.

"No worries, you're the social one. You'll catch up with people just fine. In fact, I think we might have a hard time limiting the guest list!"

At her mention of the church, he nodded. They got the check and paid, and they were off once more into the street.

"Eragny isn't far," he said. "Take my hand."

He turned into a side street, and when the coast was clear, they disapparated from the busy downtown of Paris.

The air felt different immediately where the apparated to; and the smells of trees, fields and more pleasant aromas reached their noses. They were standing in a field next to a motorway. A bird looked at them from a fence, but then flew off. Across the field were the roofs of houses, and the village of Eragny sur Oise could be seen only a short distance away. Their vantage point allowed them to take in a curious sight. There were two church steeples. One was closer to them and modern, with its white cross and modern roofline. The other, amidst a clump of trees, was a little further off. However, it was unmistakeably the one that Hugh and Aurelia knew from the painting by Camille Pissarro.

The land had changed, and the town was bigger. The motorways in and out of town had traffic, but the main highway out of Paris Central had bypassed this ancient community.

"Two churches now, ah I get it," he said. "Come on, I see a path to the one we want."

The Church Appears Ruined at first glance...
Aurelia Kenrick
As much as Aurelia loved her city life, it was a delight for her to get away from it all sometimes; and Eragny was so loved by the red head, but seldom enjoyed. She had only passed through once; and she had kept her distance from the church. Looked, but never approached. Then again, she might have really blown it to smithereens had she acted on the ill-will she’d boded for the church that visit. It had been while the pair were apart that a medi-witch she had become acquainted with had a lecture at her own home in Eragny. She didn’t want to attend; but her friend Jacob had developed quite the crush on Sophia, and without being a plus one to Auri, would have no permission to attend the function. Too bad for Jacob though; he’d found Sophia to be quite attached to her husband.

These were better times though. She had her groom and would do everything to see the church this time.

The pair found themselves walking hand in hand down the long road to the church itself; though at a distance Aurelia didn’t notice how in shambles the place really was. When they got closer though, she gave Hugh’s hand a squeeze. In her anticipation for seeing the church, she had forgotten all about the spell that gave it such a run down appearance.

“Hugh.. I thought you said they restored it?” She gave him a puzzled look, and almost looked as if she were going to cry.
Hugh Kenrick
It was a pleasant walk through the first flowers to poke their heads above the ground, and the road was more or less deserted, as it wasn't the main thoroughfare into the town. The ground started to rise as they walked, and soon they could see that the church was on a small hill, and off to the right was the river that flowed by the old part of the town, and the pretty bridge it had.

The quiet was interrupted only by the chatter of insects amongst the grasses, and the gentle swish of leaves on the trees. The girl stopped suddenly, as if in confusion.

"That's why you're here with me," he said, smiling. "I am the one that grants wishes to deserving redheads."

He placed himself behind her, and gently positioned her shoulders so that they were squarely facing the church. He could smell the fragrance of the field, and her hair, and he place his arms around her in a protective hug.

"Now close your eyes, and click your heels three times, and say the spell: Ubi Amor, Ibi Oculus Now open your eyes."

AFTER THE SPELL
Aurelia Kenrick
Aurelia drew in a breath and did as was instructed by Hugh. She stood eerily still, enjoying the feel of his arms wrapped around her small frame. Closing her eyes, she repeated the incantation that he’d told her. Her anticipation was hindered by her fear; what if the church wasn’t everything she had imagined it to be?

Hugh wouldn’t have recommended it if he thought it anything less than perfect.

She took a long moment to open her eyes, but when she did, the red head was astounded with her sight of the church. It was everything and then more.

“Oh, Hugh!”

With a quick turn, she squeezed him close and tried her best to hide that she had shed a tear or two in all her excitement. It was, by far, the most beautiful sight she’d ever encountered. Because of this church’s beauty, a man had painted it. And that painting had formed a friendship between two otherwise drifting souls.

Aurelia was quick to grab his hand and rush along; she couldn’t be late for their appointment to look at the church!
Hugh Kenrick
Hugh had hardly a moment to savor the beautiful church when the girl was all over him, and she'd been moved to near tears by the sight. It was certainly impressive to view once the spell had been removed from her sight. They hurried along the path up the mild incline, and past some trees. In one space there was a pretty circular lawn area and a granite marker with a bronze plaque on it.

The plaque was erected by the muggle inhabitants and dedicated to the original church that was 'destroyed' in 1944 by the crash of a Canadian bomber on its way back from striking a target in France. The crew of the aircraft were miraculously unscathed by the crash, and it was a source of wonder for the town ever since.

The reality was that a local wizard who served as the priest for the church had organized the magical townspeople and saved it from complete destruction, and rescued the aircrew at the same time. To keep the blatant use of magic a secret, the 'ruined' church remained in place, and a treasure of strange gold coins that was found at the same time was used to erect the new church. It was the more modern structure visible less than a mile away.

They walked up the the church itself, which was surrounded by well-tended hedges and gardens, and rested a moment.

"We're a little early, but I'm sure Father Villeneuve is about somewhere. Shall we go in?"
Aurelia Kenrick
When they’d made their way closer to the church, Aurelia slowed her pace; still holding onto Hugh’s arm as they stopped and observed the plaque. She read over it and smiled, of course! Hugh had mentioned that there was a spell; but it had totally spaced out from her mind. It was a relief to her though; since for a moment she really thought they weren’t going to be able to get married there.

She took up a spot on a bench nearby, slipping her feet out of her shoe to kick out a stray pebble that’d taken up residency there. The shoe was quickly replaced and she heard Hugh speak up.

Aurelia shrugged her shoulder, giving the bench a tap. “We don’t want to be too early. We can sit for a bit.. I do feel like I just ran a marathon.” Her blushed cheeks betrayed a grin and when he moved to join her, she slipped an arm around his arm again, slipping her legs over his so that she was sitting somewhat sideways.

“I don’t even think words can express the happiness in my heart right now. I have my real family back, and I’m so grateful.”
Hugh Kenrick
He held onto her as they sat on the bench, and heard the catch in her voice at the happiness she felt; and was moved himself by her words. It was something new to be here, and to be in love, and to be able to treat each day as glorious and new. The church loomed up next to them, and Hugh thought how many life stories had begun here since it had been built. Theirs was just one of those stories, and yet no one could match what he felt -- or she -- at that moment. They sat on a little hill, on a bench overlooking a wide countryside. The past had already framed the picture, and now it was their turn to fill it in, so that someone looking at the portrait of their lives would marvel at its beauty.

He looked at her, wondering at all the great things that were to come from a simple gesture as taking her hand, and saying words to bind them together, and all the little details of her that were so cherished; each one a marvel and a mystery. She alone, of all the people he'd met, could create that magical bridge that connects words and action with soul and passion. That is how love is born.

The day flowed past them like a breeze as they sat there, and the branches of the trees swayed and moved over their heads. The tree was life, too, and it had made music before they were there and would after they were long gone; but at present, it moved for them, in that moment. Hugh's sense of wonder stirred.

"The earth is a restless place, but there is happiness if we stretch out our hands and hearts to find it," he said, and looked at her, "I've got a good share of that happiness, too."
Aurelia Kenrick
They sat on the bench together for quite a few minutes, enjoying the sights and sounds of the world around them. Out here, the world moved a little slower; but that was never a problem for the redhead, who loved every moment she could possibly spare with the man beside her.

After a moment or two, Hugh spoke up, and Aurelia moved her gaze from the countryside to her fiancé –soon to be husband.

“I’ve got all I need here with you.” And she meant it. It really would be hard for her to picture her life with anyone else. That wasn’t to say there weren’t others who had offered her the world; she had actually turned down a proposal once, but that had been ages ago. Even in that moment when he’d said the word marriage, Aurelia had shuddered away. No way in hell.

But here, on the bench, with Hugh; it all felt right, perhaps it were a little cliché, but it was perfect.

“Shall we get inside? I think we’re about on time now.” She smiled, leaning in for a kiss before they decided to move from the bench.
Hugh Kenrick
Time stopped again as they kissed, and he enjoyed the slightly electric feel he got from her as he touched her arm and then caressed upwards to her ear and her cheek as their lips parted again. He paused just a moment to study the face in front of him, and the power in its gaze. It was going to be a whirlwind for the next few months, but the sight of her smile made him ready for anything.

He got up and held out his hand, and guided her in through the side doors that swung open easily. Inside the church had quaint high ceilings, and wooden pews and furnishings, but the altar was pretty, and draped in blue. A few candles burned in stands, and inside it was warm, yet airy. The large stained glass windows threw patterns of color on them as the sun shone through, and the motes danced in the sunbeams between the heavens of the arches above and the polished wooden floor.

There was a slight squeak, and a door directly across from them opened and closed, and a tall, silver-haired man in a plain back frock appeared. He spotted them immediately, and smiled as he took in the tall young man, and the slender girl beside him with red hair, whose hands were intertwined. He came forward and greeted them warmly in French, and then switched to English, although Hugh responded in French as well.

"Monsieur Kenrick...Mademoiselle Murdir, welcome. You are right on time,"he said. I'm also honored that you would choose to celebrate your occasion at our little church. When I received your letter I knew who you both were. But come into the sanctum, and we can talk."

His voice was deep and yet gentle, that reminded Hugh of his Grandfather Edmond, but this man was still very hearty, though obviously past sixty. He had a pleasant manner, and laugh lines appeared easily when he smiled. He led them into a very comfortable room which served as Father Villeneuve's study and sanctum. It had many papers and books, and things under glass domes; as well as a large globe of the world in a stand. Hugh imagined he was something of a scholar, or a Professor as well as a man of God.

"Would you care for tea or coffee?" Hugh accepted some tea from Father Villeneuve.

Aurelia Kenrick
The moments spent with Hugh were always quite magical to Aurelia; they were her slices of a perfection that she had only ever known with him. His scent, his touch, his very being made the red heads senses come alive. Each kiss she shared with him gave her butterflies in her stomach, like the very first kiss they shared many moons ago on a blanket under the shade of trees.

As they met the father of the church they were to wed in, Aurelia was instantly at ease; it was as if everything in her little world were aligning just splendidly. She stood less than arms length from him, smiling all the while. The man spoke and Aurelia thanked him for his time.

They followed him and were questioned if they wanted a drink. Aurelia, much like Hugh, accepted a cup of tea.

“The honor is all ours, truly sir.” It was true; at least to them. To be married in the very church that had been a pentacle of their very friendship, it was a dream come true for the redhead.
Hugh Kenrick
The discussion that followed was not unlike that of many couples. Father Villeneuve was curious as to their story of how they had met, and how much of the idea of marriage they had discussed. Hugh related a lot of their history together, they strengths and the differences they'd had. Weighing it all, Hugh began to feel more at ease. Father Villeneuve seemed to understand that the pair before him had pretty thoroughly discussed their lives together, even if some of it had only come after they had been more mature. He felt the usual pangs of guilt when some of the topics about their lives apart had been covered in the conversation. Hugh was forthright and direct at the questions that the Father put to them both. At times one or both of them would answer in turn.

"I appreciate her many strengths, Father, we communicate well, and I think her strengths complement mine. We also share the same principles about life and the meaning of being together. But it's not all for us, you see. It makes us happy, never so true as when I'm with Aurelia. My belief is that a marriage binds you a community of friends and family, and makes that whole community stronger and supportive of each other. I can honestly say that my community of friends has supported us, and we wouldn't be there without them, either."

He had been holding Aurelia's hand while they sat there, and looked over at her from time to time as he made his answers. Then Father Villeneuve turned to her with a smile.

"I've learned a lot about you both today, and I think you have all the best foundations of love. But I must caution you that good marriages don't just happen, they must be developed, Aurelia. So, what do you think is the most important aspect of your life with Hugh? and are there any areas that you are concerned with?"

Hugh believed it might be that she might be afraid to have children.
Aurelia Kenrick

The early afternoon waxed on as Aurelia and Hugh sat with Father Villeneuvue and discussed their lives and their plans to spend the rest of their future together. She was so taken aback by the beauty of the church that she often drifted off as the men spoke. Of course the redhead was listening, but her anticipation of having her nearest and dearest behold such a beauty had taken her elsewhere from time to time.

As Hugh spoke, he held onto her hand. She gave it a squeeze, smiling at him and his words. Her gaze met his from time to time as he spoke and a small blush spread across her cheeks.

When the man questioned her, she gripped Hugh’s hand a little harder. Her concerns were like any others, only she had come from a haunting past, and she didn’t want that cliché of history repeating itself to happen.

“I think the most important aspect is that our love is ever-blossoming, it never stops. It might be silly to some people, but I think that we aren’t afraid to challenge one another – within reason of course. I love Hugh, and I want to make a commitment to him that I’ve already made several times over.. I guess this whole wedding business is for the sake of those we love. We are committed to one another regardless of a slip of paper or a name change, have and always will be..”

She faltered a moment in response to her concerns. “My only concern is that with my present condition that I’m terrified of the prospect of not being around for Hugh and our impending children. You see, my mother died in giving birth to me, and though I know that’s rare, it does cross my mind. My aunt – she has a small talent in divination – claims all is to be well, but it still lurks in the back of my mind..” Aurelia drew in a breath, using her free hand to wipe at her eyes.

“I’m sorry. I’m a lady. Our emotions often get the better of us.” She sighed, shaking her head.
Hugh Kenrick
The room with its books and globes and scholarly accoutrements was quiet at this time of day, so the three of them were completely undisturbed by any noise. The church beyond the doors was also silent: If any mid-day worshipper came i for a prayer, they were silent and respectful. It was with utmost love and respect that Hugh listened to his intended speak forthrightly with Father Villeneuve, and he in turn listened, wearing the same benign look of wisdom that he had when they had met him earlier. Hugh's eyes watered ever so slightly, first for her admission of love, and then more deeply at her admission of fear. Thought she always claimed to be afraid of things, Hugh knew her to be brave, but facing childbirth was something he could never completely understand, he could only support her as best he knew how.

Surely it's a good sign that you have a man that loves and cares for you. God in his wisdom saw to it that you wished for someone that could do so, and he was provided. You have great power, Aurelia, never forget that. Power of love. Did you see the quote that Hugh put in his letter to me?

Hugh smiled.

Father Villeneuve took out a parchment letter that Hugh had written to request the audience. Father Villeneuve explained that it talked about why they wished to be married at this church, and a lot abut their love and life. Which is why he felt that he already knew them well.

"At the end here he thanks me, and he writes, 'a good man, it is said knows that the evil eye can wither, that the heart's blessing can heal, and that love can overcome all odds' This is what he wishes for you in regards to those very fears you have. You will prevail because you have that hope, too, and he will continue to bring it out of you."

Aurelia Kenrick
His words had almost brought Aurelia to tears again, but she drew in a big enough breath to avoid any further outbursts. She smiled big and nod along to what he said about them and their love.

“I know some people may think it silly to go all the way out of London to do this wedding affair, but I don’t see us being married in any other church, Father Villeneuve. I daresay that this church played a big part in the two of us forging our friendship. That friendship has given me the love I could have otherwise never experienced so grandly. So, we ask – well, I implore you to grant us our wish to be married her sir.”
Hugh Kenrick
Hugh held her hand as Aurelia spoke again and in it, he saw again a young girl, standing in front of a group of elder Wizards, imploring them to see the sense of what they had done all those years ago; although her voice wasn't as strident as it had been then, her voice took on the same tone of innocence to Hugh. His heart urged him to say more, but for all his British babbling, he coulnd't come up with any words at that moment. He knew it was a mere formality, but he took it seriously.

"I know the painting," said Father Villeneuve, simply. I would be more than happy to allow it, if you would consider one request of mine on behalf of us here in Eragny. The population of witches and wizards would like to also honor you both, and be present at the wedding. They will greet you also as you leave. They will bring garlands and flowers. Would this be agreeable to you both?"
Aurelia Kenrick
The red head was rather taken aback by the request. She looked to Hugh for a long moment before her tone seemed to change; it turned from imploring to absolute happiness. What did she care if the entire village attended their ceremony? Wasn’t the muggle motto ‘the more the merrier’? So long as their guests had a spot to be, Aurelia hardly minded if the villagers came along. Heck, they could even make the reception a big to-do; get the community involved and have a big old shin-dig.

“It would be our honor to have them come and share such a special day. Whoever would like to be there are certainly welcome. I’ll send an owl to my chef services; make accommodations for the additional guests. Just let us know the numbers so that we can amend our reception plan to fit the new guests.”

Aurelia smiled, looking to Hugh. It was going to be a great affair now. No turning back now; what was a small gathering was going to be a grand event, but it would be their day. It didn’t really matter, all those people. At least not to the redhead standing there; she would be there, and Hugh would be there. He was all she needed, and if all these people wanted to celebrate that, then she welcomed it.
Hugh Kenrick
Hugh was just as surprised by Father Villeneuve's request as Aurelia was; but it made sense. Since they were at best visitors to the area, it would only be polite to let the locals share in the event. Then his bride-to-be went one further, and invited the whole village to the reception! Hugh smiled broadly, and his eyes had a merry twinkle as she laid it our for them.

"I think it's a great idea. We'd planned on having some of the food and setup done by the local businesses, and this will just make it even more splendid."

Father Villeneuve got out his own magical datebook, and set down the times and dates, then he turned to them once more.

I will give the mayor of the magical village of Eragny the message. We'll let you know the exact numbers, but I must warn you, we are rather a lot to feed. But as you say, we can contribute as well. Have you thought about vows yet?" he asked. He also got up and pulled down a book from one of the bookshelves behind him.
Aurelia Kenrick
Aurelia thought it was a grand idea; letting all those people join in on their day didn’t bother her in the least, it would be a grand event for all. She was glad to hear Hugh thought the same, because he was just a big a part as this as she was.

The topic of vows came up and the red head looked between the man and Hugh. It was on her to-do list, but she honestly hadn’t even thought about it.

“Uh.. Yeah.. Well, I’ve thought about it, but I don’t think we’ve really talked much about it..” She drew in a small breath and held it a moment. “There’s been a lot that’s needed attention lately, but I have been thinking about them..”
Hugh Kenrick
The most important part of the whole event came up, and that was the topic of vows. Hugh had been to one wedding recently, and it had been pretty traditional. He thought it had been nice, but he was thinking that they wanted to customize the flow of the vows. All the 'take this man...take this woman' would be there, of course, but every couple wanted to make theirs speak about them. Uniqueness was key. He and Aurelia were about the same on this topic, they took comfort in the idea of a higher power, and didn't mind the structure of a religious ceremony, but they weren't fanatics about going to church. Religion was a private thing to them both, but in terms of love and the principles of marriage, they'd had discussions about it over the years, and he felt they were in alignment. Father Villeneuve was right, though; the vows were something they'd have to work out quickly.

"Honestly, father, if you have some advice and guidance on this, we'd appreciate it. It would give us a base to start with. Something we could write some of our own personality into."

The man had all morning to help them, so, he showed them a book with a number of different options, traditional, and not. They spent the next half-hour talking through the service, and in the end, they had a pretty good idea of what their part would be and what Father Villeneuve would say. A two-ring ceremony, with several areas during the service for friends to read scripture of poetry. Singing was also discussed.

"I think it would be a great thing for your friends to add to the service," said Father Villeneuve. "It's all very well for me to talk to 15 minutes, but I'd sure you'd rather break it up a little. If you have friends that sing, that would be very . You see here?"

The service had some nice phrasing, about the true meaning of love:

“We are gathered here in the sight of God to witness the joining of this man and this woman in marriage; which is an honorable estate, instituted in the necessities of our being, and dedicated to the happiness of mankind; an estate not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, discreetly, soberly, and in all sincerity.

To be true, this outward form must be a symbol of that which is inner and real, a sacred personal union, which a church may solemnize and a state make legal, but which only love can create and mutually fulfill.

To endure, the marriage of these two persons must be a consecration of each to the other, and of both to the wider community of which their lives are a part.

Love is a great thing, and thorough good. By itself, it makes everything that is heavy, light, and it bears evenly all that is uneven.

There was more of this kind of verse, with natural breaks in between. Hugh felt more confident when they were done. Father Villeneuve bound up their notes in a scroll with a golden cord. They gave their thanks, and Hugh would send the final vows in time for the rehearsal date; where he would introduce the rest of the wedding party. They bowed themselves out, and stood on the hilltop once more, blinking in the sunshine. He put his arm around her and leaned his head against her.

"That was tough, but with you there, it was easier. Thanks. We'd better get our things from the hotel, my folks are expecting us later tonight. I haven't really told them anything yet."

Aurelia Kenrick
After the long mid-morning with Father Villeneuve, Aurelia felt a sense of relief and a newfound happiness once they left the church. It was one big thing they could cross off of their ‘to-do’ list, and that brought them one step closer to being married. Which meant that they were one step closer to starting the next chapter of their life together.

They stood at the top of the hill, with his arm wrapped around her and his head resting. She smiled and slipped her own arm around his waist. “Anything for my future husband.” Aurelia grinned and drew in a small breath. “We did spend a little longer there than I had initially expected, but that’s okay by me.”

His mention of visiting his family only beckoned her grin to widen a bit. How she did adore and love his family to pieces. They were so good to her through the years, and she was plenty excited to formally become a member of said family.

“Really?” She looked at him rather curiously. He hadn’t mentioned anything to his parents? That seemed a little important to be keeping from them. Besides, had he thought it wouldn’t turn out the way he expected? Was that why? Aurelia didn’t know, but it didn’t really matter. The next few days of their little vacation were going to be met with merriment and celebrations.

“Let’s be on our way then.” Aurelia replied with a smile. Church business was finished, and the vows were well on their way to being done; there was only a million other things left to do.
Hugh Kenrick
"Oh, I told them I was going to propose, I just didn't give them a full update. They have their hands full with Olivia right now. That's why I didn't sneak them over to Paris to witness the official 'ask'. I don't think they'll be too surprised by the outcome, they're been rooting for you for years. You think I had pressure? You bet I did."

As they took the short walk back to the fields so they could apparate back to the hotel and get their things together, Hugh explained how his parents had stayed strictly out of their romantic lives, especially since until a few months ago, it seemed their son hadn't committed himself to a certain young lady. That was how it was with the Kenricks, though.

"If I had made the mistake of letting you go, they would have accepted it. So the visible pressure wouldn't be there. They know very well that it's up to us to fix whatever was wrong. But I know they were thrilled by the reports over the last few months; and I hope it won't be too strange for you to go through all this formality. It's just how we get things straight in our crazy heads in my family. However, that said, they love you, too."
Aurelia Kenrick
Aurelia was excited to see her extended family to share the good news and enjoy the company of the new arrival. It was that moment that she grew excited at the prospect of her own future children with Hugh. How lovely it would be to have a grand family of their own some day. No rush though, she was all too thrilled to even be engaged, let alone married or with child. Some day.

“We all handle things differently. I understand.” They walked on for a little before they reached their destination.

Apperating to the hotel had been easy enough; they managed their way to the room, and with a little reluctance to leave Paris – and the exchange of a few more affections between packing – Aurelia was ready to be on her way again.

“I can’t wait to see the tower of leaves.. It’s been ages!”
Hugh Kenrick
Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I've set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh, let's go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming up tails
Heads on the science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh take me back to the start

-----------------------------------

As evening settled over Paris and the United Kingdom, the old taxi trundled along along Fosse Way, the Roman road that led to Cowdray Lane. The trees along the road were still bare with winter's grip, and the road was almost completely deserted at this time of day: Commuter traffic used the big muggle highway that bypassed this little corner of Nottinghamshire; although the old road was still straight and smooth. The slightly rolling nature of the country and the small fence-bordered houses and fields had a soft beauty about it, a stark contrast from London or Paris with its busy multitudes.

In the back seat, Hugh sat and thought about the childhood here and the familiar hills. He knew all the groves and dells and little streams hereabout. The fields that sometimes filled with flowers, or with crops that wafted barley or wheat fragrance, bordered with small weed-like flowers. The land would be here always, and wouldn't even remember the small boy that had explored hedges and ditches and drains, and the cave near his home. His footprints on the world were only temporary; he knew.

He didn't have to do all this. She'd have been happy eloping to a sunny beach in Spain, perhaps. But when he totaled up the score in his head, she deserved more. She had been a girl adrift, a small red bird buffeted by winds and fate and the horror of a world she had been too small to understand. But he had cared about her, then fell in love with her, and she'd helped him, and together they'd come out all right. The mountain of emotion was steep to climb, and Hugh often had stumbled on the way, and the hand that he held in the back seat of the taxi knew it, and was forgiving. He smiled at her, and looked back out the window as the green-brown rampart that marked the site of ancient hill fort appeared, and the taxi slowed and turned onto the bumpier wagon lane that led to the house. It appeared on it small rise before they turned into the carriage way with its (now working) fountain.

The carriage lamps on the drive were lit, and the white-yellow glow from the many windows cast shadows across the gravel turnabout as the taxi slowed and stopped.

"There's still time to elope," he said, half laughing.
Aurelia Kenrick
There was a lake house; it was quaint and tucked away from the rest of the world with a view that could only be experienced in a dream. Out the back door was a patch of grass that eventually was mixed with a small patch of sand that led to the water itself. Not far from the edge was a small gazebo structure with a swing, it was the perfect place to sit and watch the sunrise or sunset on any lazy day.

“Come in the water.” A man with sandy blonde hair implored with a splash in the direction of the swing. A woman with red curls stood under the shade and seemed to debate the idea. After a moment of suggestion from the man, he gave up on the idea, turning to enjoy the water. The red head ran from her spot towards the lake, her hair bouncing and catching gleams of the sun. She rushed the man in the lake with a great laugh, pulling him down with her into the warm lake water.

--

Aurelia shifted in her seat a little, her head lulling forward until she caught herself from drifting off completely to sleep. She sat up and gave Hugh an almost sheepish grin. “Must’ve dozed off. Sorry.”

With a slight yawn, the redhead slipped her hand from Hugh’s to adjust her dress and fix a few strands of hair that had fallen out of place. She finished shuffling around and slipped her fingers between his again.

They had done a lot that day; with all the aperating and travel in general it was a little taxing, if only because she hadn’t done it in some time. The pair had successfully acquired a place to be married in. Now all she needed to do was plan the rest of the event; dresses needed to be tried on, arrangements for food, entertainment, their guests lodgings.. It honestly did seem a little overwhelming.

Hugh’s mention of eloping sparked a small laugh and nod from the redhead. “We could secretly do it, and then just have the ceremony in France for everyone to enjoy.” It would be a shame to completely call things off; their friends – and she – had waited long enough for such a day. Still, Aurelia didn’t care if five or five hundred people wanted to be there (okay, five hundred was pushing it!), it was their day to share.

“We’re here.” Aurelia smiled at the sight of Hugh’s family’s house. It had always been the best of memories when she visited. And it had been too long; Olivia was sure to be twice the size since she’d seen the little bundle last, if not more.
Hugh Kenrick
"You're right, we are part of a big circle of life. Lots of hands to help, right?"

Hugh helped Aurelia out, and Edith popped open the boot, so Hugh could extract their luggage, and send it ahead of them around the kitchen side through the dumbwaiter. The bags obediently marches off, and Hugh paid and thanked Edith, although he offered to have her come in for a spot of something, though she declined with a smile. Then she kicked the taxi into gear, and swung it around the carriage circle and off down the drive.

The pair of big lamps on either side of the door suddenly blazed out more strongly in welcome, and the sky above the house was purple with the last rays of the day when the front door opened and Aldbourne the House Elf butler stood next to it. Hugh had always found it comical when he stood by that door, small as he was. The sound of voices and music playing spilled out into the night and greeted the pair as they stepped over the threshold.

Aldbourne took their hats and coats and welcomed them in his usual grave, but squeaky voice, and led them towards the big parlor that was off the main entrance hall. The Great Hall to their right was lit up as well, and Hugh got a glimpse of a the big table fulled dressed for dinner; but no one except a couple of house elves was in there yet.

When they entered the parlor, it was a scene of animated noise. The next few minutes Hugh later likened to arriving at a big party, and going through a reception line. Well, it did seem to be a big party, and they did have to go through sort of a reception line. Hugh's father met them at the door, and led them into the room, until he silenced the crowd, and waved his arms excitedly. Hugh had rarely seen so many of his family crowded together, except for the terrible time when his mother and father had been ill years ago. But this gathering surpassed even that. There were old and young Kenricks, Vails, Rossiters, and other connections that Hugh saw only rarely.

"Surprise!" said Hugh's mother coming forward. A babe with big eyes was couched in her arms. "We couldn't resist a party. But Hugh gave us only a few details of where he was going to propose, only that the mission was successful. Forgive the party atmosphere, we're all just very happy to see you both, engaged or not." She hugged them each in turn, and so did his father.

"I really didn't know everyone was going to be here," said Hugh, a little abashed, but he summoned up the courage to get the party started.

"Hello, everyone, and thanks for the welcome. For those that don't know her, this is Aurelia; or Auri; or even Red. Though I will say that she has consented to become Mrs. Kenrick in the not-to-distant future!"

There was a very strong round of applause, and vocal adulation, and then they had to meet everyone briefly before they could go and get cleaned up and really join in.

"You're going to need the big tower room to keep this lot away. We'll have to post guards," he said to her, while starting to point out the key figures of his family to her. He kissed the side of her head, and a tray with drinks was offered by Uncle Lawrence.

"Thanks, Uncle Lawrence," Hugh said, and accepted for them both. "If you'll excuse us for just a minute or so."

"Certainly. Good to see you, Auri," said Uncle Lawrence.

Hugh took Aurelia into the side hall off the the parlor. When they were alone, he took her hands and kissed her and held them for a moment.

"Could I ask for your help once more, oh Most Favored One of Green Eyes?"

Aurelia Kenrick
It was with a complete sense of awe and happiness that the pair had been greeted at the door by the sights and sounds of an entire family shin-dig. The redhead grinned wide gave Hugh’s arm a squeeze as they were ushered into the party.

The light music and commotion were hushed for a moment as the ‘soon to be’ new addition to the Kenrick family was introduced to the rest of the crew. Aurelia was utterly delighted to meet each and one of their acquaintances’.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, Aurelia couldn’t help but feel a little envious of the grand family that Hugh had to welcome them. There would never be a party like that concocted from her family, because besides Mildred, she really had no legitimate family. Her friends were her family, but even sometimes that didn’t help the thought. Still, she was just grateful to be asked by Hugh to join his loving and caring family.

After a handful of short conversations, Aurelia wished Hugh would steal her away to at least change out of her day dress into something a little more party worthy. Uncle Lawrence offered up drinks and Aurelia almost polished off hers – she’d been talking quite a bit.

At a moment’s notice, Hugh was stealing her away for a few exchanged affections. He questioned her help and she gave him a curious look.

“Anything for ‘The Great Hugh Kenrick’, my beloved betrothed.” She offered up in an almost playful tone, leaning in for another quick kiss.
Hugh Kenrick
He smiled, and savored her lips for a few seconds, since they always made him feel better about everything. The joke of the house elves names always made him smile, too. It was easy to see why they liked her eyes, too. They were luminous, and very green, somewhat akin to their own! (though not nearly as large, of course)

"You remember when we were walking near Black Heath, on my birthday? I wanted to give you an extraordinary life then, and my pledge of marriage is part of that promise. We also made a child's deal when we were on the train one time, that you'd keep me real, and I want your word that you'll do that. We got into a little of it with Father Villeneuve, but not enough, and I wanted to talk privately about it."

He held her shoulders, and rested his forehead on hers lightly, so he could talk quietly and be near her, despite the noise and merrymaking in the other rooms.

"I'm not afraid of the future with you, and you know I'll work hard every day we're together to make you feel loved and wanted, and cherished. The thing I want your help on is that pledge to keep me real, and keep me grounded. I don't want you to ever feel that your life isn't going to be extraordinary, or that you have to change who you are for me, or that you can't be you because of marriage or babies or any challenges that confront us in the future. Does that make sense?"
Aurelia Kenrick
The commotion in the other room seemed distant to the red head, who was intent on listening to Hugh as he spoke to her about keeping him grounded. She smiled and draped her arms around him, locking her fingers together to make the distance between them shorter. His head rested against hers and she could smell a mix of his musk and the various candles lit around the house. It smelled like home, if that made sense to anyone, she didn’t know.

“I remember..” She agreed, but then said nothing as he went on.

His words always had a tendency to make her heart melt, and this was no exception. She tried to hide her smile with a look of understanding; but her lips curled into a grin as he finished and she drew in another breath.

“I will always keep you grounded. I promise.” She paused for a second, trying to decide how to go on. A family member wandered around the corner and Aurelia turned to look. With a sheepish grin, they apologized and made a quick exit. The redhead adjusted her grip on Hugh, giving him a small squeeze.
“Being with you is one of the things that has made my life so extraordinary.. And I promise that I will never sporadically change for anything; but the future holds many things that will affect us. I’ll always be that girl you fell in love with, like you will always be the boy who stole my heart.” She leaned in and rested her cheek against his.

It was a lovely thing to be so close, and so loved by the man she held onto. He was a treasure she was thankful everyday to have in her life. She hoped he knew that.
